Grid
Basic grid density for layouts is based on thirds. Further density of the grid is developed from halving the thirds.
This grid density serves as the basis for most layouts and applications and can be stretched accordingly for every format.

The content of a banner, leaflet or publication should be presented in a simple and clear way. Create airy and legible layouts and decide what is the dominant element of the design: the image (photo / illustration) or the text. Leave out everything that is unnecessary.
Margins
Absolute margins are based on a proportion of 1/24 of the document’s width. In case of a very narrow format, the margins are 1/12 of the width.
These absolute margins are constant and apply to layouting images, texts and logos in print and web applications.
Alignment and placing
Our texts are always aligned left (ragged right). Headline text starts always from the top left corner and grows towards the bottom until the margins. Depending on the context, they can also be centered. But it must never overlap with the wordmark.
Our images start from bottom right corner and grow towards top left. Apart from using images full bleed, we always leave a margin on the right hand side of the layout.
Wordmarks are used top right, but can also be centered or placed in the bottom in the case of a supporter or partner role.
Choose a suitable solution for the layout depending on the context, whether it’s a crowded trade fair, a web banner, a flyer etc. Our design principles provide many options.

Always have space in between the right outer edge and wordmark.
Always leave space in between image and a wordmark.

EU logo
The EU logo sits always in the bottom left or right corner bordering the document margins. It’s size is based on the grid.
Partner logos
Partner logos are always located in the bottom left or right corner, always bordering the document’s margins. In case of vertical logo stacking, it is allowed to align all logos. When EU logo is used, the size of partner logos is related to the height of the EU logo used in the layout.
