Colors

The national color of Estonia is blue, which carries our sense of landscape and the world. The sky, sea, lakes, rivers create openness and spaciousness, a direction to strive forward, beyond the horizon. Blue is calm and stable, but when necessary, it also gives vibrancy—as befits a true digital country.

The Estonian brand uses a total of 36 colors inspired by nature, divided into six families – bays, national parks, beaches, islands, marshes.

Color palettes

The central color family of the entire design system is the blues, which we use throughout most solutions to ensure visual consistency and recognition. If blue does not support the content or specificity of your project, choose a color family that suits it.

The gray shades that match each color family are represented by boulders, thus together forming a functional color palette that covers the needs of the entire design system.

The Estonian brand is digital blue. The digital environment has become as natural to us as being a seafaring people. Think: freedom, sea breeze, horizon, cirrus cloud, e-voting, e-residency, health portal...

Use of colors

We use colors consistently and clearly. We generally do not combine elements from different color palettes. This helps keep the visuals clean, coherent, and recognizable. The exception is graphs, where different colors can be used to clearly distinguish data.
